چکیده
• Vol 9 • January 2007 46 Exercise-induced vision disturbances are uncommon. Most reports in the literature describe patients with either a vascular or demyelinating disorder. Uhthoff’s phenomenon is a classic example, commonly described in patients with multiple sclerosis. In 1971, Fisher [1] reported a 56 year old man who experienced episodes of bilateral altitudinal visual loss induced by running and mowing the lawn. The patient was found to have bilateral occlusion of the internal carotid arteries. An additional study describing exercise-induced visual loss was conducted by Shah et al. [2], in which three young patients with congenital or juvenile-onset glaucoma presented with visual loss occurring during exercise. Reports of this phenomenon in young healthy people are rare. In 1989, Imes and Hoyt [3] reported six cases of healthy young adults, without a history of migraine, who experienced a variety of transient visual events precipitated by exercise. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports in the literature regarding visual field defects induced by exercise in otherwise healthy adults. We describe a case of a 27 year old healthy young man, without a history of migraine, who experienced recurrent visual field defects precipitated by exercise since an event of head trauma 7 years earlier.

Assessment of Macular Ganglion Cell Loss Patterns in Neurologic Lesions That Mimic Glaucoma
PURPOSE To evaluate patterns of macular retinal ganglion cell (RGC) loss measured by spectral domain optical coherence tomography in patients with neurologic lesions mimicking glaucoma. METHODS We evaluated four patients with neurological lesions who showed characteristic patterns of RGC loss, as determined by ganglion cell thickness (GCT) mapping. RESULTS Case 1 was a 30-year-old man who h...
متن کاملOccipital infarction revealed by quadranopsia following snakebite by Bothrops lanceolatus.
We report a case of snakebite in which envenomation was manifested through impairment of the visual field. The patient, a 46-year-old man, was bitten on the right thumb by Bothrops lanceolatus. Treatment with a specific equine antivenom (Bothrofav) was administered one hour after the bite. With the exception of fang marks, the results of a clinical examination, particularly the neurologic compo...
متن کاملChronic cutaneous leishmaniasis induced after trauma, mimicking keloidal scar
Leishmaniasis is a common parasitic disease classified to acute and chronic types based on the duration of the disease. The acute lesion is presented as ulcerated papule and nodule that heal after a few months with an atrophic scar. The chronic form of cutaneous leishmaniasis is a nonhealing lesion that is persistent for more than one year. Here, we describe a chronic case of leishmaniasis deve...
متن کاملMuscle activation patterns in the Nordic hamstring exercise: Impact of prior strain injury.
This study aimed to determine: (a) the spatial patterns of hamstring activation during the Nordic hamstring exercise (NHE); (b) whether previously injured hamstrings display activation deficits during the NHE; and (c) whether previously injured hamstrings exhibit altered cross-sectional area (CSA). Ten healthy, recreationally active men with a history of unilateral hamstring strain injury under...
متن کاملField Expansion for Homonymous Hemianopia
Visual field loss following a cortical lesion from stroke, brain surgery, or head trauma frequently manifests as homonymous hemianopia. Hemianopic field loss causes problems in mobility and navigation as well as reading. Patients frequently complain of bumping into obstacles on the side of the field loss and getting bruised on their arms and legs. The number of such accidents decreases with ada...
